Ben Cooper, a 13-year-old student enters a competition and wins a smart house named Pat. The smart house is capable of managing everything from lights to kitchen on its own. It picks posts from the box. It talks with Ben and works on his command. The house was based and developed on AI application.

Well, this is a childhood Disney movie from the 90s, Smart House. It may sound insane but Artificial intelligence is no more a science fiction. Gone are the days when it was just a concept in movies. The concept has taken a real shape and is being worked upon all over the world rapidly. Tech giants and robotics companies such as Hanson Robotics (who developed Sophia, a social humanoid robot and can display around 60 human facial expressions) are working on their robots while other companies which we know have already jumped in the market to launch their products based on this highly advanced technology such as Amazon, Google, Twitter, Intel, IBM, Apple, etc. In our everyday life, we come across several AI applications which we don’t know.

Siri in Apple, Cortana in Windows and Google Assistance in Android smartphones are such examples where we interact with virtual assistance for some help. These personal digital assistants work on our command (verbal or text) and respond accordingly. Google is developing a driverless car whereas Amazon has launched its drone delivery system, known as Amazon Prime Air.

Some of the best artificial intelligence examples are listed below which we see or interact with:

AI in Online Customer Support

Whenever you visit any business website, a chat box pops up with a ‘How can I help you?’ message. Not all the websites have a live human being for this work. Most of the chat boxes are based on chatbots with which we interact. These days, bots are developed on Natural Language Processing (NLP). And they are responding to more than just automated answers.

AI in Security Surveillance

We are living in an age of high technological advancements where no walk of our life has been left untouched by it. These days, security systems are all AI-based. Security algorithms receive inputs from the security cameras and based on the inputs received, they find out if there is any threat or not. And if there is anything wrong, the system will ring the alarm.

AI in Video Games

You may have not noticed it but video games are good examples of Artificial Intelligence. Games like Monster Hunter and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor are a good example of games which are developed on artificial intelligence application. Many such games can identify your performance, can keep it challenging and thus you won’t feel frustrated.

AI in Virtual Assistants

Virtual Assistants are very much popular these days. Everyone who owns a smartphone must have interacted with their phone’s virtual assistant. These are fine examples of artificial intelligence. Cortana, Google Now and Siri are the top three AI-based virtual assistants. You can simply talk to them for any help. You can ask them to make a call, send a text, play a song or even book a cab. Recently, Amazon launched Amazon Echo which is a smart speaker which is connected to Alexa, a voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant.

AI in Social Networking

Let us take an example. You are uploading a group pic on your Facebook account. The faces in the photo will be highlighted and Facebook will identify the faces if they are on the website. Facebook will ask you to tag them in your photographs by showing their names. Ever imagined how has Facebook been able to identify the faces? Well, it’s all based on the application of artificial intelligence. Facebook is investing in artificial intelligence heavily and acquired Face.com in $55 million (a facial recognition tech company based in Israel) in 2012. Snapchat launched facial filters in 2015 which can track the movements of your face and based on the movements, suggests some funny digital masks. It was developed by Looksery, a Ukrainian company.

These are some common examples of artificial intelligence which we interact in our regular life, however, the application of artificial intelligence-based systems and devices isn’t just limited to these uses only. The world has experienced AI applications in robot control, electronic trading, medical research and diagnosis and remote sensing.

Face-reading and face-recognition technologies are major features these days in high-end smartphones.

AI in eLearning

eLearning is a learning environment which is based on smart electronic technologies based on formalized teaching. The use of computer and internet make a major part of an eLearning system. Recently, due to technical advancements, eLearning has increased in several ways (for example — webinars). These days MNCs conduct training programs for their employees so that they can acquire the required skills sitting in the boardroom. eLearning is cost-effective and saves a lot of time.

No doubt, artificial intelligence is going to revolutionize our future. Companies like Google, Facebook, Uber, and Apple are heavily investing in it.

eLearning will get a new shape with the help of AI-based technologies. Systems for eLearning and more specifically corporate training are being developed based on artificial intelligence. AI has the potential to speed up eLearning. At present, the course creation is all based on the instructional designers and expertise of developers. But with the application of artificial intelligence, their roles can be replaced. In simple words, AI can generate course content based on requirements and rules. At present, artificial intelligence in eLearning is in its initial phases and it needs further advancements. If these two technologies i.e. AI and eLearning are combined, the outcome will be very promising and fruitful for the future. The immense potential of this advanced technology has already crept in many of our day to day life aspects. And in the next few years, eLearning is going to take a new shape.

The new intelligent eLearning platform will be able to allow the computer to work as an intelligent tutor. This system will be able to give personalized tutorial help to the students based on strength, weaknesses, experience and knowledge.

AI has almost entered in every walk of life and in every business sector. Be it hospitals or retail, artificial intelligence has spread its wings. You must have watched a lot of movies based on these technologies and have had a glimpse of what it would look like. However, it has been stated that the human race may have threats due to this technology and there are myths about AI technology.

There is no doubt that AI, machine learning, deep learning are revolutionary technologies. One thing that we all have to keep in mind is that whatever we do, we have to control it as well.
